Description

Students seeking a pathway into such career fields as arts administration, nonprofit fundraising & development, or venue & talent management will benefit from the AAS in Arts Entrepreneurship and Management. Deepening students' understanding of various performing arts and fostering proficiency in oral and written communication, the AAS will be a first step in forging a career in arts-related fields. Through a capstone course in a path of their choosing, students shall identify essential entrepreneurial and business functions within the arts. Under supervision of BSC faculty who are active and highly respected professionals in their fields, students gain hands-on experience in areas such as theatre, music, arts, or arts management.

Preparation

Students interested in arts entrepreneurship and management should be resourceful, flexible, creative problem solvers, interested in art, music, or theatre, and thirsty for life­long learning opportunities. Excellent writing skills, oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills are crucial to a successful career in arts management. Previous experience studying music, theatre, or art is helpful.

Requirements

Students who complete the curriculum requirements earn an Associate in Applied Science in Arts Entrepreneurship and Management. This AAS consists of general education courses plus three stackable certificates: Arts Business, Applied Arts, and Applied Communication Program Certificates.

Additional Information

BSC has partnerships with community arts organizations, including Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra, Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus, and Capital Shakespeare. Through these partnerships, BSC students begin making connections with the community and establishing outside relationships well before they finish their program of study.
