CSCI 101, CIS 147 or courses transferred in from another NDUS Institution that are listed as both general education and digital literacy may satisfy both requirements upon successful completion.

A GPA of 2.0 "C" or higher must be earned in all prescribed technical program requirement courses in order to continue in the program.

All Diagnostic Medical Sonography courses must be taken in sequence. 

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Application Process

Application Deadline
Fall: April 1

  1. Admission to Bismarck State College.
    1. Apply as "Pre-Diagnostic Medical Sonography."
    2. Check CampusConnection to ensure all of your "To Do List" items have been completed. Students cannot be admitted to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography courses if they are not admitted to BSC due to an incomplete Admission file. 
  2. Complete application for Diagnostic Medical Sonography program:
    1. Prior to applying to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, students must complete, or be in the process of completing, the year one courses listed as General Education Requirements, Prescribed Technical Program Requirements, and Diagnostic Medical Sonography Required Program Electives with a grade of "C" or better.
      1. Year one program required courses minimum GPA of 2.85.
      2. Cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5.
    2. Completion of the Ultrasound Student Assessment (USA) administered by Pegasus Lectures.
    3. Submit DMS application form available on DMS Program Application and Requirements webpage.
    4. Obtain 2 recommendation letters utilizing forms available on DMS Program Application and Requirements webpage.
  3. A certain level of English proficiency is necessary for academic success in sonography as well as for patient safety. In addition to general college English proficiency requirements, all applicants for whom English is not their native language (including International and/or U.S. residents) and have not attended 4 years of U.S. high school and achieved a HS GPA of 3.0 or higher must meet additional language proficiency requirements for admission to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
    1. Minimum TOEFL Scores for Admission to the DMS Program
      1. To be considered for admission to the DMS Program, English as a second language (ESL) applicants must achieve minimum scores on the TOEFL internet based test (TOEFL iBT) of: ​
      2. Minimum Cumulative Score of:
        1. ​86 combined
      3. AND Minimum Individual Scores of:
        1. 26 in Speaking
        2. 20 in Writing
        3. 20 in Reading
        4. 20 in Listening
  4. Complete the interview process with the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Admission Committee.
    1. Interview will be scheduled once the program application is received and reviewed.
    2. Following a successful application and interview process, students will be offered placement into the program as space allows.
  5. Upon acceptance into both BSC and the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program:   
    1. Students will attend program orientation and registration (scheduled after acceptance to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program). There is no registration for DMS courses (excluding DMS 101) prior to this day.
  6. Following acceptance, students will need to successfully complete the CastleBranch Compliance Tracker (student expense) to ensure the clinical admission requirements are met. Clinical affiliates maintain sole discretion as to the student's ability to participate in the Clinical Ultrasound Internship and may adjust the requirements at any time.
